Checking on Your Springs

The springs in your garage door are one of the most vulnerable components in your garage door assembly. We recommend checking them regularly to make sure they haven't over-stretched or fatigued from daily use. To do this, simply open your garage door. Next, detach our garage door from the garage door opener so that you can manually move the door without interference from the garage door opener. Next, carefully lower the garage door so that the bottom of your garage door is roughly half way between the driveway and the top of the opening for your garage door. Now, carefully let go of the door. If your door stays put, then your springs are in excellent condition. If, however, your garage door begins to lower or raise on it's own, then you'll need to strongly consider replacing your springs.

Spring Maintenance and Replacement

Your garage door springs undergo significant stress everyday as your garage door is raised and lowered. As one of the components that fail the most and result in the majority of service calls, we recommend taking steps to extend the lifespan of your springs whenever possible. One step is to make sure you select the correct springs for your specific garage door. Depending on the size and weight of your door, the springs that you bought at the big box store may not match the needs of your door. Some thought when selecting your springs goes a long way to extending the life of your springs. Additionally, if you do notice that your springs are failing, replace them quickly. Over-extended springs cause additional stress on other components in your garage door assembly. Duncanville Garage Door Repair has the expertise to select the correct springs for your garage door the first time, and properly maintain them for the life of your door.

Roller Maintenance

The rollers of your garage door are another component that plays a part in a high percentage of our service calls. Maintaining your rollers is fairly straightforward for the do-it-yourselfers out there, but can also be included in one of our service plans for doors installed by the team here at Duncan Garage Door Repair. There are two types of rollers found in most garage doors. The first is a steel roller, which will require regular lubrication to both the wheel, and then ball bearings that attach the roller to your door and allow it to move freely. The second style is a nylon roller, which require less maintenance as you'll only need to lubricate the ball bearing, and you'll notice it is significantly quieter as your door is raised and lowered.
